Principals
Irwin Kroskin, Architect, LEED Ap, President, joined the firm in 1965 and is the senior
principal.
Preston Basnight, Architect, Vice-President, has been with the
firm since 1978.
Design Approach
KDG believes that every project presents the opportunity to serve our clients by providing secure, economical construction that is an attractive addition to the community. KDG believes that these objectives can be accomplished in a manner that is profitable to both the owner and the architect.
Capabilities
KDG has been practicing architecture in Norfolk, Virginia for over 40 years. During that time, we have accumulated extensive, specialized experience in the design of new facilities and the repair/renovation and modernization of existing facilities. The key factors of our business success are to provide responsive client services, complete programming and scope development, quality construction documents, adherence to performance schedules, and accurate cost engineering. All production of contract documents is accomplished on our CADD equipment employing the latest edition of AutoCAD. Specifications are produced in Microsoft Word or SPECSINTACT and cost estimates in Success, the Navy’s Computerized Cost Estimating System, or Means software packages. KDG also handles all aspects of construction administration including certification of contractor’s requests for payment and review of compliance with contract documents.
Project Management
A principal of the firm will be directly involved with your project from the initial interview through programming, planning and preliminary design, up to and including, delivery of the Contract Documents. One of our qualified architects will be the project manager under the supervision of the principal.
Cost Control
KDG has established a verifiable reputation for maintaining budgetary control over all of its projects. We employ the services of a construction specialist with more than forty years of construction experience. This experience provides KDG with a unique cost estimating and quality control resource. A review of recent projects shows that our estimates vary by less than 2% between the client’s budget and the actual construction costs. With our strict adherence to project schedules, our personalized service and years of experience, KDG is able to successfully complete each project to the client’s satisfaction.
Construction Administration
KDG has represented developers, owners, mortgage lenders and various government agencies during all phases of the construction process. We have performed reserve replacement inspections for condominium conversion projects.
